Cultural College trip to Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer is one of the most beautiful, culturally preserved cities in Rajasthan, India. It is known for its grand forts and havelis and Jain temples. We got a chance to go to such a magnificent place with our college and the trip was arranged, fully taken care by LOGITRUST VOYAGES PVT. LTD. I would like to share my experience as a traveler who has been to a lot of places, but only certain places give you a sense of peace as everything is taken care off, good food is served at your service and everyone is so warm that you feel coming back again.

At the trip, we were accompanied by two very corporative females of the staff, who guided and took care of everything for us. We just had to enjoy, relax and sketch the beauty of the place. We had limited days in hands as it was a college excursion, thus we could see all the main spots of Jaisalmer city which are prominent and heritage famous.

Some of them are:

1. Jaisalmer Fort

This humongous and luxurious fort is situated amid the Thar Desert, a desert of golden sand built in 1156 and is categorized by UNESCO as Hill Forts of India. The fort got its name from the ruler Bhati Rajput Rao Jaisal as the walls of the fort stands 250 feet height with boundary walls going 30 feet high. One can have a panoramic perfect view of the Jaisalmer City.

2. Gadisar Lake

To have a great sense of peace and a gorgeous scene out of a movie, this pond is the best place. It was built by the first ruler of Jaisalmer and later reconstructed by maharawal gadsi singh in 1367 AD. The lake gets its work from Indira Gandhi Canal so it never dries up. It is located towards the south of Jaisalmer city, the entrance to the Gadisar Lake is through a magnificent and artistically carved yellow sandstone archway that is known as the tilon-Ki-Pol.

3. Patwon Ki Haveli

It is also known as the Mansion of Brocade Merchants tops the list. Patwon ki Haveli is a cluster of five large havelis in Jaisalmer. It was built by Guman Chand Patwa in 1805, it took all the workers almost 50 years to complete the first haveli. It has a very interesting story and history, Patwon Ki Haveli is actually the first and the largest haveli to be constructed in Jaisalmer.

4. Vyas Chhatri

It is one of the grandest of them all. There are cenotaphs crafted exquisitely dedicated to the sage is situated north of the entire structure. They are built of yellow sandstone with intricately designed chhatris placed on top of these pillars. A visit here would give an enduring peace and calmness especially during sunsets.

5. The Thar Heritage Museum

The museum aims to collect and preserve historical and ancient folk art of Thar Desert for tourist scholar and young generation. It was founded by M.A. Author of Jaisalmer Folklore History and Architecture which was very educational yet fun for all the students. Museum displayed sea-fossil, documents of Jaisalmer state, coins, post cards, ancient manuscripts, weapons, musical instruments, leather containers of ghee.

6. Nathmal Ki Haveli

It was built by two Muslim jeweler brothers and not stone carvers on the order of the then prime minister. The extraordinary outer carvings, this haveli is known for its beautiful interiors filled with paintings and equipped with modern facilities. An amalgamation of Islamic and Rajputana architecture, Nathmal ki Haveli is well justified as being one of the most beautiful havelis in Jaisalmer.

7. Desert Cultural Center

It is considered as an important landmark in Jaisalmer, Desert Cultural Centre and Museum exhibits local musical instruments, ancient coins and currency, traditional jewelry of the womenfolk, hunting gear of me, historical displays of rulers, artillery and armor of the bygone era armies. The place is well maintained by Jaisalmer tourism and has a rare coin related to Jaisalmer history and the past of Rajasthan in whole.

The place is incredible to go even with college friends. We had so much fun during that trip as it is one of the most wonderful heritage places to go. Me and my friends would advise everyone to reach out to the corporative team of Logitrust Voyages and book the trip asap to travel after corona virus threat ends.
